GreenQuest is an innovative, gamified platform designed to empower young people, especially in underserved communities, to take meaningful action on climate change. The project combines technology, education, and community-driven solutions to create an immersive learning experience that makes climate action accessible, engaging, and impactful.
Through GreenQuest, players embark on a virtual journey where they tackle real-world climate challenges, such as plastic pollution, waste management, and sustainable resource use. Using interactive games, augmented reality in our board games, and storytelling, the platform helps youth understand the urgency of climate change and the role they can play in driving solutions. Players complete challenges that promote positive environmental behaviors, like recycling, conserving energy, and building climate-resilient practices in their communities. They earn rewards for their actions, such as digital tokens, in-game achievements, and tangible prizes like school supplies, meal vouchers, and funding for community-driven environmental projects. These rewards provide positive reinforcement, motivating participants to continue engaging and applying sustainable practices in their daily lives.
GreenQuest also drives Afrocentric stories by embedding local cultural narratives and traditions into its content. The platform highlights stories of African environmental heroes, indigenous practices, and sustainable solutions rooted in African communities. By incorporating Afrocentric perspectives into the games and learning modules/levels, we ensure that young people connect with the content on a deeper level, seeing themselves as part of the solution. These stories showcase how African communities have long practiced sustainability and offer modern, innovative ways to apply these traditions in the fight against climate change.
Beyond education, GreenQuest drives real-world action by encouraging players to translate what they’ve learned into tangible, local impact. From organizing clean-up drives to upcycling waste and promoting sustainable farming practices in teams, the platform creates a bridge between the virtual and physical world, allowing young people to become active agents of change. The project also involves partnerships with local NGOs and community groups to amplify its reach and provide on-the-ground support for climate solutions.
We are integrating play with purpose and grounding the experience in African stories and values, We aim to inspire a new generation of leaders who are equipped with the knowledge, skills, and passion to tackle the climate crisis. The project fosters a sense of responsibility, collective action, and empowerment among youth, giving them the tools they need to build a solid future. Through this initiative, we hope to spark a global movement of young people who are not only aware of the climate crisis but are also actively shaping solutions, one game at a time.
