The essence of our solution lies in its ability to provide comprehensive, technology-driven support. At the heart of this initiative is a user-friendly website designed to be a one-stop shop for family planning information, products and linkage to care and support systems. With the user experience at the forefront of our solution, the PlanWise website is a knowledge hub, offering detailed information on family planning methods, dispelling myths through a Reddit-like community and a virtual one-stop-shop to provide tailored-made anonymous access to family planning products and services based on social income and getting them delivered to one’s doorsteps, thus addressing the stigma associated with self-procurement of contraceptive products. We’re also introducing an interactive voice response accessible through a dedicated speed dial number, ensuring immediate responses and referrals even to areas that have low technical know-how. The interactive voice server acts as an immediate point of contact, offering information and facilitating referrals. This dual approach ensures that users can engage with the solution in a way that suits their preferences and needs. There are Feedback mechanisms, providing a channel for users to share their experiences, contributing to a responsive and evolving environment.
Unlike existing approaches, our solution integrates various facets essential for breaking down barriers. The comprehensive nature of the strategy, combines user-friendly technology with awareness campaigns, delivery services, and continuous training for healthcare providers, setting it apart. It doesn’t just aim to inform but to create a holistic ecosystem that addresses the unique challenges faced by individuals in accessing family planning services.
The primary beneficiaries are young adults, women and couples of reproductive age, particularly those who face hurdles in assessing contraceptives and other sexual and reproductive health education and services due to myths, stigma, or limited accessibility. The ripple effect of this empowerment extends to marginalized communities, ensuring that the benefits reach those often left on the fringes. A special focus on youth-friendly centres (YFCs) in tertiary institutions of learning caters to adolescents, recognizing their specific challenges in navigating family planning information and products.
The project deploys strategic collaboration with healthcare providers, NGOs, and community leaders, accompanied by extensive awareness campaigns introducing the website, the interactive voice server, and the dedicated toll-free number for rural communities. Simultaneously, healthcare providers undergo training to enhance their capacity. Integrating PlanWise into existing healthcare systems and partnerships with delivery services is pivotal for seamless execution. Continuous monitoring and feedback mechanisms ensure the adaptability and effectiveness of the solution.
Our solution also aligns seamlessly with Nigeria’s family planning goals, as outlined in the Family Planning Blueprint. By directly addressing the identified barriers, we contribute to the national target of achieving at least 27% mCPR by 2030. The focus on accurate information, enhanced accessibility, and improved service quality mirrors the fundamental pillars of successful family planning initiatives. This alignment ensures that our solution is not just a stand-alone effort but an integral part of the broader national strategy.
